A while back I decided that I really needed to have my Etsy banner professionally done.
I wanted to support an Etsy artist, and in particular an Australian – and through this decision I found Rebecca of Graphic Haven.
She is wonderful to work with. So approachable and open to suggestions. She reworked my banner until I was 100% happy with it.
In addition to her graphic design work, Rebecca also has a jewellery store – Gift Designs on Etsy. She agreed to go under the Spotlight, and share a little bit about herself…
NAME: Rebecca Costa

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself…
On a personal note, I am a mum to 3 kids (and wife to the ‘other big kid’, ie: my husband!). I spend the majority of my time raising the kids and fitting their school and kindy needs in and around my ever growing work life. My youngest is off to school next year which will definitely open up my schedule to dedicate more time to exposing my work to the wider community.
On a professional note, for many years I worked as a Personal Assistant in what I call my WLBK (work life before kids!). Having kids has allowed me the time to tap into my creativity and since then I have enjoyed developing my career in a totally new, yet exciting direction.
I have two shops that I divide my time between, the first being a jewellery shop (Gift Designs) and the second being a banner and web ad shop (Graphic Haven). I enjoy the challenges of both equally, they each draw on my creativity in different ways however the satisfaction gained from each is quite a similar.
Most of my graphic experience has come from my time as a personal assistant, however jewellery making is totally new to me and something that I am learning more about every day. I don’t have any formal training with jewellery making, but I totally love the idea that I can create something from a few supplies and achieve a result that will someday become a special part of someone’s jewellery collection.
2) What time of day are you at your creative best?
There is no particular time that I am most creative, however I have noticed that I am particularly creative immediately prior to needing to be somewhere else!
I quite often find myself saying ‘just one more minute and I HAVE to leave’!! It is then that I find I’m am particularly creative, and I find it extremely hard to put the project down once I am in the creative zone!
3) Where do you find your inspiration? Do you have any ‘rituals’ to help put you in the creative state-of-mind?
I am extremely inspired by colour, especially with my jewellery and I love to indulge in bright bursts of colour, as you will see in almost all of my pieces.
4) How do you squeeze crafting into your busy life?
Ahhh, at this stage, only just! I am learning the ‘art’ of time management and working harder to achieve a balanced and planned approach to the way I do business! Definitely a work in progress, but getting better by the day!
5) What are you working on now?
I am busily working to build up my jewellery stock to do some markets and approach some retail outlets to stock more of my items.
6) What three tools could you not live without?
2. Wire Cutters
3. Graphic editing software
