HOMETOWN: Mt Barker, South Australia
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself…
I’m a self taught beader, polymer clay artist, chainmailler, mandala artist, along with lots of other creative pursuits. I am also mum to 4 energetic and challenging boys, and 1 gorgeous little girl. I write for an online craftzine and am on staff on a couple of online forums.
2) What time of day are you at your creative best?
Well, I am not at my creative best first thing! Generally I do my best work during the afternoon and evening…which does’t always work with children.
3) Where do you find your inspiration? Do you have any ‘rituals’ to help put you in the creative state-of-mind?
I find inspiration everywhere, depending on what I’m making or what materials I am using. I don’t have any rituals, I create when I feel the need or when something screams to be made. Although putting myself under pressure, such as with a challenge or competition deadline, seems to produce great results.
4) How do you squeeze crafting into your busy life?
Since I began to take my craft more seriously, and started my business, I have learnt to schedule certain amounts of ‘household’ stuff for each day so that I have time to create and do all the things that selling online requires. My children are also a big help a lot of the time, they help with household chores and cooking (not always happily LOL).
5) What are you working on now?
I am not actually in the process of working on anything currently, mainly photographing pieces that have just been made and listing them. I’ve just finished a busy period with several challenges and competitions, so I’m taking a mini break ..unless inspiration calls.
6) What three tools could you not live without?
My hands, my pasta machine (for polymer clay) and my Baby Wubbers (mailling pliers for those who haven’t heard of them.)
Thank you for this opportunity.
You are most welcome Jennifer. Thanks for taking the time to share a bit about yourself with us.
