{create} Diary of a Design – A Design Hitch

By Tasha Chawner on May 4, 2010

Hello there! If you're new here, you might want to subscribe to the RSS feed, by email or with Blog Lovin or say hello on Twitter. Thanks for visiting! Tasha xoxo

Once I’d gotten all of the materials prepped for the bridesmaid earrings, I was keen to get started.

The original design that Carli had decided on was going to have three dangles of alternate lengths.  As I started putting the dangles together though, I had one of those uh-oh moments.

Carli had requested that the earrings be about 5-6 centimetres long.  As I looked at the dangle I was making, I realised it was going to end up a lot longer.

The one pictured below has a briolette, plus an 8 millimetre and 6 millimetre bicone crystal.  It was also meant to have a 4 millimetre crystal – which would have made it a bit longer still.

These are going to be tooooo long!

Adding to the length was the Fancy Spade Charm Carli had chosen to go at the top of the earring.  It was nearly 3.5 centimetres in length itself, which in addition to the dangles would have put the finished earrings at 9 centimetres – definitely shoulder dusters.

The charms were longer than I realised.

So I emailed Carli and filled her in on our problem.  I then made up a set of the earrings with shorter dangles and sent her a photo of them.

Beautifully balanced and not too long!

I used my Beautiful Girl as a model – so the earrings in the above photo have a surgical steel ear wire on them, instead of the gold-filled ear wires that the girls will have.

Thankfully Carli loves the earrings!

All three sets are now complete – gold-filled fish hook ear wires for two of the girls, and a pair of gold-filled clip-ons for the other.

I can’t wait to see the earrings with the dresses!!
