taking stock #012

It has been a rough couple of months with health issues on multiple fronts… all of which has taken their toll on me.

While I usually look forward to a taking stock, I’m dreading the thought of thinking about what has happened and what is to come over the next couple of months, so forgive me if there are a lot of blanks this time round….

Making: water kefir to help with my gut health, and loving it!
Cooking: from the Stone soup weekly meal plans.  We’ve only just started, but I’m thinking that it’s going to make organising dinners so much simpler.
Drinking: more of that kefir water.
Reading: nothing.  Not a thing.  Nothing is of interest at the moment.
Wanting: good health for all the family.
Looking:
Playing:
Deciding:
Wishing:
Enjoying:
Waiting: for our holiday… not long to go now.
Liking:
Wondering:
Loving: the way my family has looked after me these last couple of weeks… “We don’t do it because we have to, Mum.  We do it because we love you.”
Pondering: if all this clean living is really working.
Considering:
Watching: Buffy, the Vampire Slayer.  Have introduced the kids to her and while they laugh and criticise, they still ask when we’re going to watch the next episode!
Hoping:
Marvelling: at the change in season.  The colours are stunning.
Needing: time on a beach.
Smelling: the immune booster essential oils I’m burning in bulk at the moment… trying to rid the house of all things germy.
Wearing: comfortable clothes.
Following:
Noticing:
Knowing:
Thinking:
Feeling: really run down… and over it.
Admiring: the colours of the leaves in Autumn.
Sorting:
Buying:
Getting:
Bookmarking:
Disliking: coughing.
Opening:
Giggling: at the Boy when he predicts what will happen in Buffy.
Snacking:
Coveting:
Wishing:
Hearing: the dog groan with old age whenever she moves.

Not too bad, considering.

Hope to see you all sooner rather than later, because I know that the blog has been very quiet of late.  Apologies there, but I been prioritising and unfortunately for the blog, she’s a fair way down the list.

{documenting life} bathing the dog on an autumn afternoon

Our dog Jo will be 8 this year, and lately we’ve noticed age creeping up on her.

she’s never been a fan of having a bath

but in true dog-style, she insists on laying in the dirt near her kennel, which meant it was time for a freshen up.

A few years back, Warren took pity on her and started bathing her in the bathtub during the colder weather.  That’s now turned into being bathed in the bathtub whenever she needs a wash.  She’s still not a fan of her bath, but I think she’s grateful for the warm water and towel-dry at the end!

jo's sad dog face when she realises it's time for a bath

pouring water over the dog

the dog doesn't like water on her face

having her face washed

licking her face clean

one last rinse

time to catch the shake

are you going to shake dog?

enjoying the towel dry attention

oh, the indignity

the queen of clean

In the comments, I’d love to hear:

Do you spoil your dog as much as we (obviously) spoil ours?
Baths in the bathtub, or something else much more indulgent?

taking stock #008

autumn leaves mean a cool change is coming

the weather is turning and the nights are getting cooler

I find that as the weather changes, I tend to look inwards, and outwards, and evaluate just how things are going in my world.

Priorities are re-assessed.
Energies channelled elsewhere.
Happy moments remembered.
And moments of sadness acknowledged.

and gratitude is given that all is right in my world

Making: jewellery again – after quite a hiatus, my Muse has returned
Cooking: quesadilla’s for lunch – smoked salmon and cream cheese.  Yum!
Drinking: plenty of water
Reading: the third novel of Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children – Library of Souls – by Ransom Riggs.  Highly recommended.
Wanting: more time to everything I want to do
Looking: at the leaves changing colour
Playing: with the dog
Deciding: how to spend money – a holiday or teeth.  Can you guess which one won out!?
Wishing: I could afford to both of the above
Enjoying: Sunday afternoon phone calls with my Beautiful Girl as she continues her adventure in the Territory
Waiting: for school holidays to end
Liking: not having to rush in the mornings – it is school holidays after all
Wondering: when we will see our Girl next
Loving: that my Muse has made a reappearance
Pondering:
Considering: purchasing a 24-70 lens.  I’ve borrowed a friends’ and despite the weight of it realise that it’s a wonderfully versatile lens
Watching: re-runs of Merlin for the third time!  My Boy and I love that show.
Hoping: I get to go to the Northern Territory in September
Marvelling: at how determined my Beautiful Girl has been in the face of some less-than-ideal circumstances
Needing: the beach.  Every now and again, living on the top of the mountain gets too much and I need sand and ocean
Smelling: dust.  It’s so dry here at the moment, and windy and all I can smell is dust
Wearing: my ugg boots most mornings now – it’s getting cool
Following: …
Noticing: the stunning contrast of yellow leaves against the blue sky
Knowing: that my Beautiful Girl will always only be a phone call or message away
Thinking: about all things business (still…) (and still….)
Feeling: a little bit lost
Admiring: other people’s beautiful photography
Sorting: out a blog post editorial calendar – and hopefully sticking to it…
Buying: evening primrose oil to make my moisturiser
Getting: organised
Bookmarking: or pinning lots of business-related articles
Disliking: people who don’t listen
Opening: the yoghurt covered sultanas
Giggling: …
Snacking: on protein drinks
Coveting: a couple of nights by the beach
Wishing: for a full nights sleep
Helping: …
Hearing: the sound of the little finches who’ve taken up residence in the garden

In the comments, I’d love to hear:

Do you keep a gratitude journal?
Have you ever considered it?

{glimpses} An afternoon at Wirraway

An Autumn afternoon at Wirraway…

Piling in to the truck for a drive around the property.  Glimpses of wildlife.  Kids running and climbing.  Grown ups admiring the view

and pondering the good life

the trout dam at wirraway

view of the yarrowitch valley

admiring the view from the hill at wirraway

black cow watching me

tree silhouette against blue sky

a good life in a beautiful country with friends who are like family…
couldn’t ask for more

{seasonal} Autumn means…

windy days - fresh and breezy - with the occasional cranky mood to boot (wind does that to me)

Stepping over Autumn leaves as I walk down the street to get my groceries

The leaves turning red and yellow and gold - the first thing I loved about living in the New England

Kicking the soccer ball around the backyard with the Little Man - soccer season will be back in full swing soon
