Aussies on Etsy – Redeem Designs

Today’s Aussie on Etsy is Vicki of Redeem Designs.

Vicki says “Redeem Designs is a fusion of 2 passions: my love for the creative process and my belief that we can and should make a difference in our world.”

I completely agree with you Vicki – we can and should make a difference in our world.

So come learn a bit more about the talented Vicki…

NAME: Vicki Weetman
AGE: 46
HOMETOWN: The beautiful Gold Coast

1) Tell us a little bit about yourself…

Ahhh. I never know what to say here. What’s too little, what’s too much…
Ok, the basics. I am a ridiculously happily married woman. Married my first love 27 years ago this year. We have 4 beautiful, smart and funny kids who inspire and frustrate us in varying degrees on a daily basis. I work part time as a Library Technician at my kids’ school and full time helping my husband pastor our young and growing church.  There is always a ‘project’ of mine sitting on our dining room table aka my work bench and another one on the arm of our lounge in front of the T.V. I grew up surrounded by creative arty types as my Dad was a printmaker and artist and always involved in the local galleries and art communities. Which is probably why I am so eclectic in my approach to crafting…there is nothing I have not tried at sometime or not inspired by.

2) What time of day are you at your creative best?
I ebb and flow. The creativity urge can hit early morning or late at night. I get a lot of energy from the creative process so even when I’m tired it will energise me.

3) Where do you find your inspiration? Do you have any ‘rituals’ to help put you in the creative state-of-mind?

I have always been a big day dreamer (always in trouble for it). So I one of my favourite things is to sit in a quiet place with a good cuppa and just stare off into space and imagine. Conversely I also like to go to shops and look at things to trigger inspiration whether it be a 2nd hand shop, craft shop or Bunnings (hardware is very inspirational).

4) How do you squeeze crafting into your busy life?

Seriously, sometimes I don’t know. Fortunately my lovely husband works from home and does all the cooking and helps with lots of the cleaning, that give me space from housewifely duties. And I get pretty protective on my Mondays (day off) so I can get work done.

5) What are you working on now?

At the moment I am working on developing the recycled journal range with stationery ideas. Also working on expanding my crochet skills past granny squares to include street and steam punk gear like ruffled scarves and cuffs and jewellery. These are still in the ‘sample stage’ so not yet released to my shop.

6) What three tools could you not live without?

Yikes hard one. I love my tools. Ok right now my guillotine (yes only cuts paper, not heads), my jewellery tool set (they are so handy for lots of things). And finally my really good scissors, I have always bought cheaper scissors, these are my first pair of expensive ones and heaven help anyone who uses them.

Thanks so much Vicki – and it was my pleasure!
I love learning more about fellow Aussie/crafter/mums who are doing what they love. It’s hard work trying to combine all aspects of your life and loves, and stay sane. So I love learning more, because it is people like you that inspire me to keep going.
