Creative Introduction: Earrings by Erin

Introducing my first Australian Artist.

I came across Erin at the Starving Jewellery Artists Forum.

Her work is wonderfully unique.

Amazingly detailed.

And Erin has kindly consented to be my first artist under the Artist Spotlight.

As I unveil each Australian Artist, I’ll ask them a series of questions to learn a little bit more about them.

NAME: Erin
AGE: 28
HOMETOWN: Nowra, New South Wales

1) What time of day are you at your creative best?
I’m a morning person which means that I get to work during that time on Saturdays and Sundays. I also need to have music playing to create.

2) Where do you find your inspiration? Do you have any ‘rituals’ to help put you in the creative state-of-mind?
I find inspiration in shapes, gemstones, flora, fauna and New Zealand Maori art and culture.
I normally start with sketching a small idea in my head or just with a gemstone in mind. I’ll keep playing with the idea and building on it until I’m happy. Normally I’ll keep changing a design right until the very end of making it.

3) How do you squeeze crafting into your busy life?
It’s hard! I work full time in a lab and also do greyhound rescue and adoption so I squeeze in wire wrestling whenever I can. During the work day I’m often thinking of designs.

4) What are you working on now?
I have a sketch drawn up for my next pair of earrings – a square shape this time.

5) What three tools could you not live without?
My Lindstrom flush cutters, fine round nosed pliers and bent nose pliers.

Thanks heaps Erin!  Love your work & look forward to seeing more of it.
