My Beautiful Girl did it a little rough this holiday.

She surprised us all by having her appendix out on the 14th of December (note to mothers of teenage girls… watch out for mistaking it for period pain), which shot our well-made plans to pieces.  We were all meant to leave early on the Monday morning, take 5 leisurely days to drive up north and show the kids a bit more of Queensland as we did so…

Enter Plan B.

Husband and the Little Man left early on the Tuesday, while Daughter held down the couch as she recuperated.  It would have been too cruel to put her in the car and drive all that way, so she and I got to fly from Tamworth to Townsville on the Friday instead.

One week post-op and even that took it out of her, but she was determined to make it to North Queensland for the wedding and to see her cousins!

She threw us another curve ball on Christmas Eve when she went to bed at 5 p.m. and didn’t want any dinner.  By 10 p.m. she was running hot – even in an air-conditioned bedroom – and I was ready to throw her in the car and get her to an emergency room.

Husband talked me down and I had a somewhat sleepless night getting up and down to check on her.  By early morning though the fever had broken and she was back to firing on almost all cylinders.

She couldn't get enough of the R2E2 mangoes (seriously as big as your head, and you know what they say about eating stuff as big as your head!)

It's time to go home Dad... I'm tired

She’s made a full recovery, thank the stars, and has an awesome open appy scar to show for it.

One last post with some of my favourite shots to come tomorrow…
